The most obvious way of knowing you need to replace your air conditioning unit is if it’s not working at all after being worked on several times or it’s costing you more money in repair and energy bills than the unit is worth keeping around. Before you make any decisions it’s always best to have the unit inspected by a certified HVAC contractor you can trust.

Your HVAC unit should be serviced at least once annually. Twice is best. The best times of the year are right before the winter season and right before the summer season.
Why do I have to change the filters so often?
Filters are put in place to protect us from breathing in tons of pollutants and allergens floating around in our air, but also protect the unit from dust and debris that can damage working parts. Because air is all around us it’s important to keep our family’s safe by exchanging out dirty filters every other month to assure that all the in your home is pure and healthy and your unit achieves maximum efficiency and lifespan.
What type of filter do I need?
The filter you need will vary from brand to brand and unit to unit. Should my thermostat be set on ON or AUTO?
When your thermostat is set to AUTO, the fan operates only when the temperature requires it. This is the most commonly used setting. When the thermostat is set to the ON option, the fan runs constantly. There are advantages to using the ON setting. First, the air in the house is continually filtered through the unit’s air filter. Secondly, the constantly circulating air may result in a more even temperature throughout the house.
Can I do my own maintenance?
There are certainly some air conditioning maintenances you can perform on your own such as changing the filter, cleaning the drains, and checking the unit for proper operating however, we recommend that you always work with a certified contractor if you’re not confident in your repair abilities. Work done without a license may void your warranty.

If your HVAC unit is not cooling your home evenly there may be several issues ranging from total system breakdown, to dirty ducts, to even leaks or issues with the ductwork itself. You’ll want to contact your heating and cooling contractor for a service visit.
Does my HVAC system need a surge protector?
